What does the pool dominance chart show?
It shows each mining pool's monthly share of the blocks produced on the Proof-of-Work QRL chain, drawn as a 100%-stacked area from 2018 to today. Reading it top to bottom for any month tells you how concentrated mining was — whether a few pools dominated or block production was spread across many.
How is a mining pool identified?
Quantascan's wallet-classification engine flags an address as a pool once it has mined a large number of blocks (about a thousand or more) or pays rewards out to many addresses on the same day. Curated labels add known pool names where available; smaller coinbase earners are shown as solo miners. Names are never invented.
Why show a percentage share instead of block counts?
Dominance is about concentration, not volume. Normalising each month to 100% removes the day-to-day noise in how many blocks were mined, so what stands out is the share each pool controlled — and how that balance of power shifted over the years. What is the “Other miners” band?
The chart plots the largest pools individually and groups everyone else — the long tail of smaller pools and solo miners — into a single “Other miners” band. A large Other band means mining was well distributed; a thin one means a handful of pools produced most blocks.
Does QRL 2.0 have mining pools?
No. QRL 2.0 is Proof-of-Stake, secured by validators rather than miners, so it has no mining pools. Pool dominance is a Proof-of-Work concept and applies only to the original Proof-of-Work chain, which becomes a permanent read-only archive after the transition to QRL 2.0.
