- What is the total supply of QRL?
- The total supply is every QRL coin that exists today: the 65,000,000 Quanta created in the genesis allocation at launch in June 2018, plus every coin actually emitted since as Proof-of-Work block rewards. We cross-check this figure against the supply a QRL node itself reports (coins emitted), so the headline answers a single question with chain-level authority: how much QRL exists right now. Just under 80M Quanta is on-chain today.
- What is the max supply of QRL, and how much is left to mine?
- The maximum supply of QRL is 105,000,000 Quanta — a hard cap defined in the protocol's emission schedule. Just under 80M is on-chain today (roughly three-quarters of the cap), leaving most of the 40M mining pool — about 25M — still to be emitted. - What's the difference between circulating, total, and max supply?
- Max supply is the eventual ceiling QRL approaches — 105,000,000 Quanta over roughly 200 years. Total supply is every coin that exists today — the live on-chain figure shown here. Circulating supply, which exchanges report, subtracts coins held in foundation reserves; we show total because those reserves aren't distinguishable on-chain.
- Where did the first 65 million QRL come from?
- QRL launched in June 2018 with a 65,000,000-Quanta genesis allocation: 52,000,000 went to public-sale participants (carried on-chain via the 2018 ERC-20 token migration) and 13,000,000 were reserved at genesis, of which 8,000,000 were earmarked for distribution as determined by the QRL Foundation. Everything above that 65M has been emitted as Proof-of-Work block rewards — the tokenomics card above shows the full breakdown.
- What is the emission rate and inflation telling me?
- Emission is how many new coins are minted per day. On its own a daily number is hard to judge, so we pair it with the annualised inflation rate — that same emission expressed as a percentage of the current supply over a year. QRL has no Bitcoin-style halving: the reward decays smoothly every block, with one one-off 60% reduction voted in by QIP-16 in 2022. On a young network the figures can be noisy in either direction — near zero, or wildly high when normal rewards land on a tiny supply base — and we flag that on the page rather than dressing it up.
- Why do CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko show a different QRL supply?
- Three common reasons. First, snapshots go stale — aggregators poll periodically while this page tracks the chain continuously, so their figures lag (some exchanges still show years-old numbers, and CoinMarketCap may show supply as 'not available' until it re-verifies it). Second, definitions differ: 'circulating' supply excludes coins held by the QRL Foundation (≈8.45M Quanta per its tokenomics page), which makes that number meaningfully lower than the on-chain total. Third, some figures simply predate recent emission. Our headline is the on-chain total — genesis plus everything actually minted — and it reconciles with what a QRL node itself reports.
- What happened with the 25M QRL attack in 2022, and does it affect supply?
- On 2 June 2022 an attacker exploited a block-validation flaw to insert a rogue second coinbase of exactly 25,000,000 Quanta at block 2,078,158. The network responded within a day: a protocol update banned the attacker's address and zeroed its balance, restoring all but ~323 Quanta. The transaction is still visible in chain history (we index it honestly), but it does not count toward supply — our accounting excludes the rogue mint, exactly matching how every patched QRL node reports supply since the fix.
