What does the inflation rate measure?
It measures how fast the coin supply is growing, as an annualized percentage. Each day's net new coins (mint minus burn) are multiplied out to a yearly rate and divided by the total supply, so it answers the holder's core question: how much is my share of the supply being diluted per year? It is a pure supply metric and needs no market price.
How is total supply (the denominator) calculated?
Total supply is the genesis allocation plus everything minted since. The Proof-of-Work chain launched with a 65,000,000-coin genesis allocation at block 0 (which the explorer never sees as a transaction) plus mined coins on top; QRL 2.0 starts from its genesis allocation plus validator issuance. The inflation rate divides daily issuance by this full supply, not just the mined portion.
Why is the inflation rate so low?
Because the supply is already large relative to daily issuance. The Proof-of-Work chain's emission decays toward the 105M cap while the supply sits near 80M, so annual growth is well under 1%. A mature chain naturally has a low and falling inflation rate — early years inflate fastest, then the rate trends down as the base grows and emission slows.
Does the EIP-1559 burn affect it?
On QRL 2.0, yes — the rate uses net issuance (mint minus the EIP-1559 base-fee burn), so heavy on-chain usage lowers the inflation rate and can push it negative (deflationary) on busy days. The Proof-of-Work chain has no burn, so its inflation rate reflects gross mining emission only.
